Collecting, Preserving, and Sharing Untold Stories of the LGBT Community

In recent years, many members of the Queer community have chosen to leave the United States and build new lives in other countries. Their reasons are varied and personal, but many cite concerns about their rights, safety, access to healthcare, and the future they envision for themselves and their families.

Starting over in a new country is rarely easy. It often involves leaving behind careers, homes, friends, and family. Yet for many, the decision was made in the hope of finding greater security, stability, and acceptance.

Most of these stories are shared among friends, families, and community members. While these conversations are meaningful, they are often not preserved or shared beyond those personal circles.

Project QueerFlight was created to collect these stories, preserve them as a historical record, and make them accessible to others. By documenting these experiences as they happen, we hope to provide future generations with a better understanding of this moment in history and its impact on the Queer community.

Through this project, individuals and families can share their journeys in their own words. Their stories offer insight into the challenges, hopes, fears, and opportunities that accompany the decision to leave one's home country and start over elsewhere.

Like many communities before us, we believe it is important to tell our own stories. By sharing these experiences through Project QueerFlight, we hope to increase understanding, foster connection, and provide support and encouragement to others who may be considering similar paths.
